Thank you Jenny for your response but, your name was NOWHERE mentioned.
Truth be told, if the shoe was on the other foot. Would you not be considered a single mother, with custody of your children? Just asking? Would you not tell people that your a single mother and in need of, had it been you and your home?
I’m only stating fact, the truth! No where did it mention you. And NO WHERE did my words attempt to make YOU look bad. I was only merely stating facts! Sounds to me as though someone’s conscience had gotten the best of them. And why would I try to make my brother look pitiful, that’s a bit absurd, he’s a great man, a great father, and great provider. I’m trying to help a family, my family, who lost everything in a fire. Not the first time, in the last six months, that I’ve posted things for people, friends or family, concerning a fire taking their home and needing things.
instead of looking towards those who are trying to help, why not ask questions of others…..
For example…. I see that all three banks have set up funds for Wayne Eichelberger and his family but, not for the rest of the families involved. Why is this? Who started the funds? And how can the other families get help from the community as well?
I’ve contacted the American Legion in Everett, and was told to write a letter about my brother’s situation, and it will go in front of the board. Hopefully, they can help out, in the form of a donation box, fundraiser, etc.
Wanna do something? Pick up the phone, call someone, ask questions, get information on how these families can get more help from the community.

deerhunter, I too had heard that one apt. was under the drug task force watch. But had not heard that the fire was set by anyone. Or that anyone was jailed.
Makes a person think more about the incident, maybe if it was a drug apt. They will checked out more carefully.
this is a small town , and word travels fast. Doesn’t it?
Hey did you hear of the home on Hollars Extension that was suppose to have been robbed and that also was a drug house? I heard that the police had been at this house but found nothing. this was to have happened two weeks or so ago. with this being a free press and camerman letting us report and talk of different things in the area. Maybe even the public will be more willing to discuss and help with the BIG drug problems in the area. Most find it scarey to even mention for fear what might happen but with this being a site you do not have to use your name. Well we shall see. I do not want to accuse anyone wrongly but would like to see our town cleaned up. I do not know the phone number for reporting of drug problems, but I do know there is one.
Cameraman do you know that number for reporting drug acitivity? If so possibly you could place it on the site for anyone who knows any info. I do not know what it comes under or I would of listed it. Thank-you

i really appreciate the effort stephanie. they are in need but i was a little irritated with the way you described matt. he is a single father when? we have both been here equally for these kids and i don’t appreciate how your words flowed out. i really don’t mean to sound ungrateful steph but don’t make me out to look bad to make your brother look pitiful. i’ll do all i can for your brother and our kids. i know you’re heart is in the right place but please keep in mind how your words affect others.
the kids sizes are:
boys pants/shorts 10-12
boys shirt m
shoes 3
girls pants/shorts 3-5 (in women)
girls shirt lg
shoes 7 1/2
i do know they need furniture, beds, bedding, etc.
any help would be appreciated.

I have read the comments made both good and bad of Mrs. Leeds. First lets remember that in time of crisis, feelings are very emotional. I know this for a fact for we have had a fire. I personally could not of asked for a kinder person to assist us in beginning to make sure our health was not affected by the smoke. I was given info of what was avaible to us. I must say you can not make everyone happy all at once. But to place 14 in housing and getting organized to give each family cards for clothing and food. For if you divide 14 into $3500.00 that is around $250.00 per person. Red Cross is there to assist families in need. As it says no one has to sleep in the truck. One family had family to turn to. Nothing was mentioned of the other family. So now think just for one minute. Mrs. Leeds is only one person who is trying to give the families the best the community has. Most helpers of the Red Cross are volunteers. Lets give her and the volunteers a little consideration. She wears many hats for the Red Cross. She also helps with the food bank.Which I am sure she mentioned to the families of that option. But it does take time to get all organized.
I feel for myself I was very thank-ful for the red cross to be there for us. So just for one minute think of the responsiblity she too has of caring for the families. Seems they all received help how many of you who are complaining have given a helping hand. As far as her attitude I was not there, but like I said emotions run high in a crisis. I am not sure but possibly Mrs. Leeds was just trying to keep the family safe by telling them they were not allowed to enter. She works with the fire company and I am sure she knows the rules of Safety about people entering a burnt building. Correct me if I am wrong but doesn’t the Red Cross get a good bit of there funds from donations. Well if so, then she probably has guide lines to follow as to the need of the families on an individual basis. We do not know the whole story. But I am sure it takes a strong person to fulfill her responsiblities.
Pretty bad if we have county workers who want to degrade other county workers. See that is how this county is. Let someone step on a persons toes and BANG . Someone will have something bad to say . Seems that is the way it is here, we always hear the bad , but very seldom hear the good.
Cameraman do you wanna share any of the negative comments that was made by the county workers of Mrs. Leeds such as for example. How she has treated people.
I bet they would not be willing to tell it to her face.

yes, thank you! and a big thank you to all the fire deptartments, involved in putting out the fire!
girls, size 3 (jeans/shorts), M/L (shirts)
boys, size 10/12 (jeans/shorts), L (shirts)
i will be taking in clothing donations for my brother and his family at my home, as they do not want all the attention out at the folks’ home place. also, some of the monetary donations will be going towards helping finish a home that is on my dad’s property, that my brother and kids will be moving into. they need a roof, lumber, drywall, carpeting, cabinets, (if anyone has thrown out any old cabinetry). there are plenty of friends and family able to donate time and money, and their helping hand into finsihing this home, so that they may move in before christmas. unfortunately, my brother thought the military would help in some way, but they are not able to, because he is in the reserves, not active duty. not to mention they already owe him money, and he hasn’t seen a dime!! all is aprecciated, thank you. my contact info is sjdefibaugh@embarqmail.com
THANK YOU!!

Stephanie, you mentioned in your post that donations can be made for the Clark Family Fund at a post office
box. Are they only accepting money donations, or are they in need of clothing or any other type of supplies. If so please list the sizes along with male or female, and where the donations could be dropped off at. Maybe for those who can not donate money could possibly offer help in other ways.
You also mentioned that the fire was in the right side.
Do you know what had caused the fire?

The truth of the matter is, anyone who lives in that area could tell you that it started on the far right! Doesn’t take an expert! Secondly, no, no one is living in their truck. I do know that, yes, Ms. Leeds was rude to those victims involved, including my little brother, who was living in the middle townhouse. A single father, who has custody of his two children. A decorated veteran. And a student of Criminal Justice, looking to take his State Trooper exam next year. I also know that one of the victims complained when given a room at the Caroline Courts Motel, to be close to work, and in return, MY BROTHER, gave the complaining victim his hotel key, for him and his family. My brother and two children are currently staying with our parents. (Funny, if only two families needed rooms, wouldn’t there be extra money to have furnished necessities for them? Seeing as how you DIDN’T spend 3500 dollars in hotel fees? Just asking.)
Thanks to the FREE PRESS “Cameraman”, for being thorough, compassionate, and fair! Nice work!
To the Red Cross, get YOUR facts straight! Upon entering the building, after being told they could go in and grab a few personal items, my brother and family member were screamed at by YOUR people. Ms. Leeds in particular! I was told by family members, it was embarassing and she was absurd! Stating that it wasn’t right, and that they would now have to wait until Tuesday. How does that seem fair? I think if someone is in need now, now should be the time to help. What are the families supposed to do in the meantime? Were you that busy, you couldn’t find time to do it then? What was the issue? Let’s pray, for the families sake, that come Tuesday, your word is transformed into actions!! Donations for the Clark Family Fund are being taken at P.O. BOX 185 Everett, PA 15537
Thank you!

I am glad that they are getting help, but I also think that the actions and comments of joanne leeds is disgusting. If she is going to work in a job where she is to help people then she needs to learn what compassion is. Also the way she treated the cameraman was uncalled for. You can bet if something like this happened to my family and someone from the red cross treated me like she treated these families I would be making sure her superiors did something about it. I would not let her get away with it.

first of all you need to get your facts correct, show me were i said the red cross did not help anyone?
i said some ( not all ) people were un-happy with joanne leeds attitude
i noticed you left her name out of your comment
dont want to talk about how rude she was, to some of the victims?
so you housed all 14 people in motels?

As a volunteer member of the Red Cross who happened to be at the fire helping the victims I just want to say that no one is sleeping in their truck. All three families affected by the fire have been put up in motel and given a card for clothes and food.
