In reply to Wondering:
Mary Jane Mitchell served as the Executive Director for the American Red Cross when it was in Bedford, for many, many years. She was such a giving person and was always ready to go the extra mile when it came to her work at the Red Cross or helping with projects within our community. When she learned that a group of people were looking to establish a comprehensive crime victim’s center in Bedford County, she was one of the first women to respond in making it happen. She was especially looking forward to help with the work it was going to take to establish a shelter for women and children. Sadly, she died unexpectedly and never got to see the project completed. Mary Jane helped so many people in her own life. So, in her memory, and honor, we named the facility after her.
I was reading over early postsway back in March, I beleive it was under Blue Eyes anyway I saw a questions concerning the Mary Jane Mitchell House.
It never received an answer, so I thought if possible you could post for them the story behind it.
The question asked was who was Mary and why did she have her name to the home.
If you can please post the info. Thank you.
Very informative, Great job, putting this info on the net for those who are in need.
