MURDER IN WOODBURY

18 YEAR OLD DEAUNTAY MOYE WAS SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT PAROLE FOR THE MURDER OF STEPHANIE WATERS.

AT THE SENTENCING WE HEARD EVIDENCE THAT MOYE HAD A PROBATION VIOLATION HEARING THE DAY AFTER HE SHOT WATERS TWICE IN THE BACK OF HER HEAD. MOYE 16 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME SHOWED NO SIGNS AT THE HEARING THAT HE HAD JUST KILLED A FEMALE THE DAY BEFORE. HIS PROBATION WAS REVOKED THAT DAY FOR TESTING POSITIVE FOR MARIJUANA AND WENT TO A JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER. IN 6TH GRADE HE EXPOSED HIMSELF TO FEMALES IN SCHOOL.

SEVERAL FAMILY MEMBERS OF WATERS GAVE HEART WRENCHING STATEMENTS. WHICH MOYE SHOWED NO EMOTION.

THE DEFENSE ATTORNEY POINTED OUT HE HAS HAD ACCESS TO DRUGS AND ALCOHOL SINCE HE WAS 10 YEARS OLD. AND WAS A CORNER PERSON DRUG DEALER IN BALTIMORE AT A VERY YOUNG AGE. SHE TOLD THE COURT THAT HE MOVED TO BEDFORD COUNTY ATTEMPTED TO FIT IN A MOSTLY CAUCASIAN POPULATION. SHE READ A LETTER WRITTEN BY MOYE WHO SAID HE WAS SORRY FOR WHAT HE HAD DONE. THE DEFENSE ATTORNEY PAINTED MOYE AS JUST A CHILD WHO WAS IMMATURE. IT WAS STATED THAT MOYE BLAMED HIS MOTHER FOR NOT BEING THERE FOR HIM, WHICH THE MOTHER CHUCKLED OUT LOUD. THE DEFENSE ATTORNEY SPOKE ABOUT RUDE COMMENTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA ABOUT PEOPLE SAYING SHOOT OR HANG MOYE.

A NEIGHBOR OF MOYE A MRS REED SPOKE TO THE COURT, AND SAID, MOYE CAME TO HER HOUSE MANY TIMES AND SHE WAS NEVER SCARED OF HIM. A PASTOR SPOKE AND WANTED PEOPLE TO FORGIVE BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS YOU SHOULD DO.

THE JUDGE DID NOT BUY INTO HE WAS JUST A CHILD AND HE WOULD LEARN FROM HIS LESSON DEFENSE. HE SENTENCED MOYE TO LIFE IN PRISON WITHOUT PAROLE AND A $50,000 FINE. THE MOTHER AND STEP FATHER OF MOYE GOT UP AND WALKED OUT BEFORE THE JUDGE WAS DONE HANDING DOWN HIS SENTENCE.

17 YEAR OLD RYAN HARDWICK WAS SENTENCED TO 60 YEAR TO LIFE FOR HIS ROLL IN THE MURDER OF STEPHANIE WATERS. HARDWICK WALKED INTO THE COURTROOM SMILING AND COCKY AS HE WAS ABOUT TO GET SENTENCED. THE COURTS HEARD FROM 4 FAMILY MEMBERS INCLUDING THE MOTHER OF WATERS WHO LOOKED RIGHT AT HARDWICK AS SHE READ A STATEMENT. HARDWICK SHOWED NO EMOTION AS THE 4 MEMBERS ADDRESSED HIM.

IT WAS DISCOVERED AT THE HEARING THAT HARDWICK HAD A SIMPLE ASSAULT CHARGE ON HIS JUVENILE RECORD, WHICH INCLUDED THROWING A LIT CIGARETTE IN THE FACE OF A FEMALE DURING AN ARGUMENT. AND OTHER INCIDENT WHERE HE SHOT A GIRL IN THE FACE WITH A BB GUN. A PASTOR TOLD THE COURTS THAT HE WENT TO SEE HARDWICK RIGHT AFTER THE MURDER AND HARDWICK SHOWED HIM REMORSE.

HARDWICK MADE A SHORT STATEMENT TO THE COURT, HE SAID JUST BECAUSE HE DOES NOT CRY DOES NOT MEAN HE WAS NOT SORRY, AND THAT HE TRIED SENDING A LETTER TO THE FAMILY OF WATER’S TELLING THEM HE WAS SORRY. HE ALSO SAID HE DID NOT THINK IT WAS FAIR TO BRING UP HIS PREVIOUS JUVENILE RECORD. JUDGE LIVENGOOD TOLD HARDWICK BEFORE HE SENTENCED HIM, THAT HE WAS TROUBLED BY HIS LACK OF EMOTION AND HIS DISREGARD FOR HUMAN LIFE.

ALL IN ALL HARDWICK ACTED LIKE HE COULD HAVE CARED LESS WHAT WAS BEING SAID IN THE COURTROOM. ALWAYS GLARING AROUND THE ROOM AT THE PEOPLE IN THE CROWD.

  1. Anna, you’re so right about Woodbury and the people who live here.I’m so glad I was reared here. I’ve talked to people who work in town and live away from here. They always mention how they like to work here because the peole are so friendly. We have respect for ourselves and others properties. With this lovely snow, what a beautiful day in Woodbury.

  2. Thomas Charlie i love your comment that is so true on many levels. And for everyone else that’s not aware of woodbury. That community is small with neighbors waving hello to one another and taking walks with family. With a small playground, baseball field, and little restaurants. This community is one you well not find often. We have our traditions our memories.. anyone who is from there will tell you. Christmas is not Christmas until the tree is lite or until the star is bright. I can not say the community does not have it’s own little drug problems but as for hurting thy neighbor or anyone that would never happen. First things first we were brought up with respect, love, and each other..

  3. Thomas Charlie was only stating what the rest of us are thinking.Talk to the people in Woodbury if you think he was being profiled. He’s one evil dude. Also, I’ve been waiting for someone to say they made a “mistake”.Your mind is very small if you can call this a miatake.

  4. Thomas Charlie and Carl, your comments to this article are shameful to our community. Your comments are part of the reason why racism still exists in this world. To blame the parents is a completely different story. It is people like you who treat people that do not look like you or act like you to retaliate. Yes, these kids committed themselves to carry out these acts. But, who are you to say that the parents are to blame? You never know, maybe some one’s or even your disgusted look that was directed towards them at some point of time was what made them cross the line to make them feel that they had to do this. To many people are self centered in this world that they are to busy to even notice that one person that just needs a little help.

These young men made a horrible mistake and they should go to jail. Hopefully, it’s 25 to life.

Stephanie Waters; We are praying for you and your family. RIP

  5. Marijuana was a large factor in this senseless murder because a young 21 year old girl would of not met these 2 people if is was not for a drug transaction, however, it is true that these 2 young men had premeditated murder intentions on their minds. Long and short of it is if you are involved in criminal activities you are in risks of consequences on all types of levels. No disrespect meant towards Miss Walters just stating a fact.

  6. Sooner or later someone was going to get killed. Whether it be this young girl or maybe someones grandma, gramdpa, mother, father, sister, brother. It was an act they were planning out according to the news. So no matter who, where or why it is the nature of the beast. This was just a game to them.

  7. This story is so shocking I am surprised it did not make national news.

The sad thing is… If either of these boys were shot by the police, Al Sharpton and his crew would be marching the streets of Woodbury in protest while the national media would show pictures of them riding big wheels at age 7.

  8. I was Ryan’s friend and I am 15 years old I did not expecty friend to murder someone over weed I am just shocked.

  9. People involved in drugs or have friends that are involved in drugs should not have children or animals. They depend on the parent or owner to protect and take care of them, not put them in harms way. This girl should not have lost her life, sad thing is she put her dog in harms way along with herself and look what happened. Children and animals have no voice and need protected, and not be with people who do not put them before themselves. No good comes from that life style.

  10. TNB.
I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to pause for a moment and give thanks for the great contributions of the Black community to our society. Their peaceful and generous nature make them ideal neighbors, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture. Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people. Real estate values are fueled by the mix of African Americans into an area due to their caring and respectful nature of these communities, an example of all they have achieved through their enthusiasm for self- improvement by hard work and a self-reliant can-do nature. Without their industrious and creative drive, we would surely be a poorer nation.
    (…said no one, ever!)

  11. Pat Smear How dare you call Stephanie trash. What a cruel thing to say when her family is mourning her. I would rather deal with someone high than drunk any day. Redneck thinking is the problem here. They wanted an excuse to kill someone and they used that as there excuse. Please, they are evil souls who would have killed anyone they could lure into being alone with them.

  12. Tracy she work at puff in snuff in rs I new she looked familiar and am in such shock after this tragic event

  13. Racism…that will solve all our problems here. This murder WAS drug-related – if you read the report, their plan was to rob and shoot someone for marijuana. Not video games. Not a random listing on Craigslist. They wanted to make a drug deal and pull a gun on someone. They may have shot someone regardless of marijuana, but in the details above, marijuana was an intentional part of their plan. And to Stephanie’s family, if it wasn’t marijuana they were trying to get, she would still be alive. By the way, if marijuana were legal, these teenagers would still have been underage, so that kind of blows that theory.

Another thing…the Cove is not exempt from bad things. I’ve seen so many comments about how this is supposed to be a “safe place” to live. Murders happen everywhere. Evil happens everywhere. No circle of mountains are tall enough to keep it out. It is just downright ignorant to think that because you live in a rural area, you’ll never experience danger. And if you live here for that reason, you are trying to hide from the real world. It’s one thing to want to live in a safe community…it’s another to believe that community should never have problems like this. As long as we live in a fallen world, there will always be problems like this…no matter where you live!

  14. it was planned by the no good piece of shit to kill someone. Sad that anyone had to die over this piece of shit. I believe when you purposely kill another it should be an eye for an eye. The other idiot went along with him and he should face the same!!! PA needs to change their death penalty as they both deserve to die. Why take care of his stinking ass? The boyfriend should also be charged as it was his weed the girl was delivering. Just a sad sad senseless death.

  15. weed didn’t kill that girl, two immature ruthless assholes did. Weed wasn’t WHY they killed her, it was just their excuse to meet with her. And if it hadn’t been her, it would have been someone else. This is where the government and police force is wrong.

  16. Three pieces of trash off the street and one innocent dog. I only feel bad for the dog seeing that it had no options.

  17. You know the boyfriend should be charged to it was his drugs that got her killed this is awful that people can’t feel safe anymore

  18. if she had video games for sale they wanted on craigs list it would have happened blamming this on weed is stupid and wrong these kids are punks and and they will now get the thug life being some ones bitch

  19. They were going to kill someone…anyone…regardless of the circumstances. I agree weed was not what killed her. They could have been meeting for ANY reason and she would still have been killed

  20. This is so sad those boys now have the time too get there life under control at our expense of course sorry has a lot too do w parenting at home. Her bf also needs too b charged also the owner of that gun should be! The worst part an innocent daughter and grand puppy is now gone all over a drug deal!

  21. Weeds not fuckin harmfull dumbass! How about some more apes in our community??? They are whats harmful. Tired of this politically correct bullshit

  22. Love how the DA made the BS charge that MJ killed this girl. It has zero to do with it. In fact if it were legal this transaction would have never taken place and these two animals wouldn’t have been able to use the meeting as the backdrop for their thrill killing.

  23. My god this makes me sick, I seen this girl every week at her work when I went to get my tobacco. No one deserves this no matter what they were doing or selling. I am from Martinsburg and this scares the hell outta me that one of those kids lives here and they also did this just to see what it was like to kill someone. That could of been anyone here. Death penalty sounds good, they deserve it.

  24. “these two men wanted to live the gangster lifestyle….” says it all. This has nothing to do with weed. they were going to kill who ever was in that car.

  25. if this was not a drug deal gone bad why was she delivering drugs.?someone should be charged for selling drugs why is there no mention of it. where is Jessie & Al and their kind also Obama and Holder.? white people don’t count in their world.

  26. Fry those worthless SOB’s. This was premeditated AND why was there NO mention of the shooter JUST being released from juvenile camp last month??? Thurs boys are worthless to society so why the hell should we house them for 60-70 yrs??? Eye for an eye brother.

  27. if it was legal as it should be this never would have happened. they still would by it lllegally due to there age but the circumstances would have been different i would think. The big secrecy level and atmosphere would be a game changer. of course nothing is worth murder and what prompted it was just stupid. 2 kids running around armed and looking for trouble from the start. it is sad and stupid.

  28. This was Premeditated Murder there was a discussion of plans prior to. it didn’t matter who it was that came to them or what they came to do. The 2 of them knew what they intended to do. Not to mention no remorse as they drove around with her alive. Hate Crime! You have to have hate in you in order to do this type of act.

  29. Also this was not a drug deal gone wrong people who know those 2 know it was for the thrill of the kill.

  30. why is this not national news!!!! If this was a case of 2 white’s killing a black it would be breaking news on Fox. Furthermore if this state would legalize this plant this would not happen. That is a fact.

  31. marijuana didn’t kill this girl, evil people with a gun killed her. Put the blame where it belongs.
