BILL HIGGINS SENTENCED

FORMER DISTRICT ATTORNEY BILL HIGGINS WAS SENTENCED TO 8 YEARS PROBATION, A FINE OF OVER $9,000, HE WILL HAVE TO SERVE OVER 1,000 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE, AND WILL HAVE TO WEAR A MONITOR BRACELET FOR 120 DAYS. 11 PEOPLE ADDRESSED THE COURT. 6 AGAINST HIGGINS AND 5 FOR HIGGINS. 2 DID NOT SPEAK TO HIGHLY OF THE OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL. HIGGINS APOLOGIZED TO THE PEOPLE OF BEDFORD COUNTY AND TOOK FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR HIS ACTIONS. MAKING NO EXCUSES FOR WHAT HE HAD DONE. HIGGINS STATED THE ALLEGATIONS WERE IN A TIME OF HIS LIFE WHERE HE WAS DRINKING HEAVY AND GOING THROUGH SOME PROBLEMS IN HIS LIFE. HE IS NOW ATTENDING AA MEETINGS, AND HAS BEEN GOING TO COUNSELING. HIGGINS TOLD THE COURT HE LOST EVERYTHING OVER HIS MISTAKES. HE LOST HIS JOB. HE LOST HIS LAW LICENSE. HE LOST FRIENDS. AND LOST PEOPLE’S RESPECT. THIS ENDS A SAGA THAT STARTED APRIL 4TH WHEN HE WAS ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH ABUSING HIS POWER IN OFFICE. HE WAS THE BEDFORD COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY FOR 18 YEARS.
